In this two-session online course, we will focus on ways to use both the Pregnancy Interview (Slade, 2003), and the Parent Development Interview (Slade et al., 2004) in clinical practice. Both are semi-structured clinical interviews that can be used with parents in a variety of clinical settings; parents typically enjoy taking them and find them evocative and meaningful. We will also consider how to assess the quality of parental representations of the child and of themselves as a parent (or parent-to-be). The assessments can be used in a variety of contexts in either individual or dyadic intervention: at intake, during the course of treatment, or at the end of treatment. They can also be used to deepen clinical work by entering into a conversation about a parent’s emotional experience of parenting. We will use previously collected transcripts for training purposes. In addition, all participants will be asked to administer one or both of the interviews prior to the training. All participants will be required to administer at least one PI or PDI prior to the first session. The registration deadline for this course is November 1st. You will receive confirmation regarding whether the course is sufficiently full to run following the registration deadline, at which point payment will be requested prior to the course. To register for this course, please complete the registration form linked here: Registration Form for Upcoming Trainings
For those participants new to the PDI and PI, we will offer a 3-hour training session on November 10, 2025 focusing on the interviews themselves and providing guidelines for administration.
